Hello! Happy Autumnal Equinox!
Do you remember, four years ago this month, when you signed up for this urban nature newsletter? And I sent you an essay about my beloved neighborhood bluejays, and then after that you never heard from me again?
I’m sorry about that. Not the bluejay part. The never sending another newsletter part.
The good news is, I’m back! And I hope you will stick around. Because this month I started training to become a certified field naturalist with Mass Audubon. This is the first time the class has been held in the City of Boston. I am so excited for the next three months of study, and for the opportunity to explore the natural environments within city limits. And I can’t wait to share what I learn with you!
Expect observations, interesting facts, naturalist book and resource recommendations, tons of photos, and heaps of enthusiasm for the natural world that exists between buildings, in the wild corners of our neighborhoods, and in our public parks.
Happy grasshopper chorus, happy sideways light, happy cool morning walks, happy milkweed pods bursting, happy fall migration, happy asters blooming everywhere even in the crack of that old cement wall, happy darkening days.
More soon,
Your friend,
Louise
So fucking excited for you and for me--my inbox is going to be just a little bit more beautiful! Congratulations!
Welcome Back! How exciting to be a Field Naturalist! Looking forward to reading your next newsletter.
